Tetris 99 2.0 Update Includes New Modes and DLC
A wealth of new content for the game was announced during the September Nintendo Direct.
Tetris 99 is getting a whole bunch of new content when it’s 2.0 update drops today. The main event is a new Invictus Mode, designed specifically for the cream of the crop of Tetris players. You can only access the mode once you’ve won at least one match of the traditional mode. This should help keep the god tier players in their own bracket, while the rest of us plebs potentially have a better chance of emerging victorious.
As well as this new mode, the game is also introducing daily missions. If you manage to beat them, you’ll be awarded with in-game tickets which you can exchange for new modes and player icons. We’re always happy for more customisation options, and this is a cool added incentive to boot the game up for a couple of rounds each day.
If you’ve previously bought the Big Block DLC - or are planning on doing so in the future - you’ll also be treated to a couple of new multiplayer options. Share Battle will see you and a friend divvy up the Joy-Con to go head-to-head against both each other and the CPU. Meanwhile, local wireless multiplayer will also be available so you can take on your friends in Local Arena Mode.
The update launches today, so you should be able to dive in now!
Outside of the update, Nintendo also re-confirmed the upcoming physical version of the game - coming bundled with a year’s subscription to Switch Online and the Big Block DLC included - for a fairly reasonable price of $29.99 / £24.99.
