John Bernthal Wants To Play Little Mac In A Punch Out!! Movie

His comments come in an interview with Digital Trends.

Video game movies are all the rage right now. The Detective Pikachu film was a great success, there’s the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and lest we forget there’s an animated Mario picture in the works too.

The line between movies and games is becoming increasingly blurred too, with Hollywood actors taking up roles in games, complete with their likenesses.

Norman Reedus as the lead in Death Stranding comes to mind, as does his fellow Walking Dead star John Bernthal’s turn as Cole Walker in the recently released Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

Speaking of whom, Digital Trends recently asked the Punisher star which gaming character he’d like to portray. Of all people, Punch Out!!’s Little Mac was top of his mind.

“What I’ve been playing with the kids is Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. Little Mac, he’s really small, but that would be really cool I think — his rise up through the ranks.”

Little Mac’s underdog story would certainly make for a great film - it is basically Rocky after all!

Nobody has yet expressed interest in a Punch Out!! movie, but the team behind the Detective Pikachu film have stated they’d be keen to make a Smash Bros flick. Maybe Bernthal could take on the role of Little Mac in that adaptation?
